A Multitasking Tip

Things are a little different in the world of multitasking and we wanted to give you a tip you can use.  Suppose you have an app that is misbehaving.  It happens.  In order to solve some types of issues with apps you will need to completely shut down that app.  With multitasking running apps are always going in the background so you need a way to completely shut one down.  No problem just use this tip.

  1. Double-tap the home button to activate multitasking
  2. Use your finger and press down on one of the apps for a few seconds until they are all shaking
  3. See the red minus symbol on the apps?  (see the image below)
  4. To shut down an app just press that red minus symbol and it will not be running any longer

Using Folders in iOS 4.2 For iPad

We wrap up this guide with using folders for iOS 4.2.  This is probably the easiest feature to use but the least understood.  If you do not have an iPhone with this feature it can be confusing to use at first.  But what are folders and why should you care?  Folders are not really folders like on your desktop.  They are groupings of apps by category.  In the image you can see there are some folders created.  It’s a way to keep all your common apps organized and to clear your screen clutter.

iPad iOS 4.2 Folders

Using Folders

To use folders in iOS 4.2 on the iPad you do the following.

  1. Hold your finger down on an app that you want to move into a folder.  Let’s say this is a game app.  The apps will all start to shake.
  2. Using your finger, drag this game app (or any app) on top of another similar app.  A folder is automatically created with the two apps “inside”.
  3. Keep dragging similar apps into your new folder and you will see the benefits of a well organized home screen

iOS automatically names these folders for the most common of apps.  But you can also rename these folders and here is how to do that.

  1. Hold down your finger on a folder until it begins to shake
  2. Tap the folder
  3. Notice that you can now delete the name of the folder and/or rename it

Folders are pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it.  They are great because they keep your entire screen organized and generally feel more productive.

So there is the guide to using AirPrint, AirPlay, Multitasking, and Folder in iOS 4.2 for the iPad.  Please leave any comments, tips, or observations in the comments below for others to see.
